Assignment 2

After analysis of my classmates' web pages, it seems that the prevailing forms of media are all internet based. Spotify for music, YouTube and Netflix for videos, and video games (such as Overwatch) for interactive media. This is not particularly surprising; the college student demographic is very prone to use of technology, particularly in an environment where peers are using the same forms of technology. It's the same reason why iPhones are far and away the most popular devices on campus; everyone wants to share experiences with their peers. With Spotify, I can share a playlist with all of my friends; but only if they have Spotify as well. Same with YouTube; I can share videos but they have to use the media as well. Along with social media, such as Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram, participation by/with peers seems to be the driving force behind how people are choosing their media forms.

Other popular forms of media include Reddit, Hulu, Email, Texting, and Television. These agree with the conclusion that participation with a larger community is critical for people to enjoy media.

As for why people are taking the class, there are a wide range of reasons, although the most prevalent is for sure to get credit for our degree plan. This is usually a secondary goal, however, while the primary for most people tends to be that people want to understand more about how people interact with media and how media is going to change in the future.
